RDA's Connected House shortlisted for RIBA awards

We’re delighted to share that The Connected House has been shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards 2024—a recognition that celebrates architectural excellence and innovation.

Nestled in the heart of The Dulwich Estate’s conservation area, The Connected House is a prime example of how cutting-edge sustainability and technological integration can breathe new life into a mid-century home. Originally designed by Austin Vernon & Partners in the early 1960s, this home stood as a relic of its time—boasting incredible views of London’s skyline but suffering from decades of substandard modifications.

The Connected House is a testament to this philosophy, balancing sustainability, functionality, and elegance in equal measure.

This project embodies RDA’s ethos of thoughtful, context-driven design, transforming a dated property into a high-performance, sustainable haven. Through a sensitive yet bold retrofit approach, The Connected House enhances both the quality of living and the building’s environmental performance, ensuring longevity while respecting its past.

But The Connected House is more than just a beautifully renovated 1960s Dulwich Estate home. It’s a vision for the future—one where sustainabilitysmart technology, and thoughtful design come together to create homes that are not only energy-efficient but also connected in every sense of the word.

By retrofitting rather than rebuilding, this home stands as a testament to the potential of sustainable transformation. It demonstrates that even within the strictest of conservation areas, a home can be brought up to modern sustainability standards without sacrificing its charm or character.

For Michael, Talia, and their two young sons, this home now serves as an energy-efficientcomfortable sanctuary—a place where every space is connected to the breathtaking views beyond and where the house itself is connected to a more sustainable future.

At RDA Architects, we see retrofit as a powerful tool for sustainable design—breathing new life into existing structures rather than starting from scratch.

We’re honored to see this project recognised by RIBA and look forward to the next stage of the awards. Congratulations to our team, collaborators, and clients who helped bring this vision to life!
